SCARS REVISION

INTRODUCTION

Scars revision is not a medical decision, but a personal one. The way you see yourself defines you and integrates you in the society.

The scars resulted after some traumas can create psychic complexes, because of the unaesthetic aspect which can affect your life and activity. At the same time the scars resulted from several diseases or skin infections which appeared during puberty, can have similar effects upon you. In a lot of cases the make -up does not succeed in covering them, the areas with problems. Some people see in them a positive particularity of their personality. Some other do not accept them and search for a method to remove or cover them.

Friends and family members can tell you their opinion about this action , the plastic surgeon can give you medical advice, but the only one who can decide what's in your best interest it's you.

This kind of operation is addressed to men and women who are unhappy with their face and neck. This kind of intervention can be realized in two ways: excision and closing the brace by several procedures ( direct suture - in case of linear and small scars, Z plastic surgery, neighboring flap, skin grafts in case of distorted scars), dermabrasion for outstretched scars or scars hat are placed in areas hard to reach.

Dermabrasion is not used for congenital pigmentation, or, after hormonal therapy, for tattoo removing.
It is forbidden to do dermabrasion with an acne present, when having an active Herpes, or after treatment with irradiation.

The final results of dermabrasion are variant, according to the skin type, color, the scar featuring, and the depth of the abrasion. In these conditions people with black and yellow skin can produce depigmented areas after dermabrasion, and persons having pathological scarring can produce keloids.

If you are unhappy with the aspect of your face this operation offers you new possibilities of having a new look.

THE SURGERY

The purpose of this operation is that of resurfacing several areas with irregularities. Dermabrasion can be realized on small or expanded areas, or on the entire face.

The operation is realized by used an abrasive device coupled to an engine. Through this device the plastic surgeon is "polishing" the skin and is removing the irregularities and protuberances. This operation can be realized at one time, or in several sessions, especially when the scars are big as surface and surface.

After the operation the dressing is done in several ways: ointment, dry treatment or a combination of them.

The operation is done under general anesthesia because it is safer and ensures a greater comfort for the operating team. The risks of the anesthesia are diminished by general anesthesia, but they can not be complete eliminated. Present your plastic surgeon a medical history, in order to establish the way of the surgical procedure. In most cases local anesthesia is enough.

The time it takes to perform the dermabrasion depends on several factors: the surface of the scars, the complexity of the operation, the depth of the scars, the type of the anesthesia.

The operation lasts about 1 - 3 hours.

Most dermabrassions require 1 to 2 days of hospitalization, in order to keep the patient under special medical surveillance.
